By the early 2000s Wheatley was documenting east London’s burgeoning Grime music and subcultures, following young musicians as they honed their skills in MCing and production. He has published several books of his photography, including<i> Don’t Call Me Urban! The Time of Grime</i> (2010, second edition 2025).\n\nThis photograph is from the series Lost Dreams, which documents young musicians in youth clubs across east London from 2005 to 2007. In this image, taken at Weavers Field Youth Club in Bethnal Green, Wheatley has captured the energy and passion involved in battle-rhyming between aspiring emcees. A young Hak Baker  appears on the right, wearing sunglasses.
