In this large and famous painting, he takes a different viewpoint of Lincoln Cathedral from De Wint (cat.no. 104), but his conception is no less grand. He sets his detailed delineation of the architectural details in the context of an impressive roof-top vista, the descendants, as it were, of the medieval builders of the cathedral seen working on the parapet in the near foreground.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Mackenzie, Frederick","id":"A8636"},"association":{"text":"artist","id":"AAT25103"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"watercolour","id":"AAT15045"}],"techniques":[{"text":"watercolour painting","id":"THES250889"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Watercolour","categories":[{"text":"Architecture","id":"THES48993"},{"text":"Interiors","id":"THES48933"},{"text":"Christianity","id":"THES48978"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2006AN6815","2017JV0703"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"A","id":"THES304426"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"water-colours","id":"AAT78925"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Lincoln","id":"x32629"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1850","earliest":"1850-01-01","latest":"1850-12-31"},"association":{"text":"painted","id":"x30138"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"107","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"framed","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"134.3","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"framed","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Watercolour by Frederick Mackenzie depicting Lincoln Cathedral from the North-West.
