His costumes, designed by Ffion Elinor, reflects the character's 'elder  statesman' status and background in 1960s London gangs like the Richardsons or the Krays. Bernie wears sharp tailored suits, thick-rimmed  glasses and subtle flashes of jewellery, in contrast to the heavy jewellery and long leather coats of Goldie and Andrew Goth's characters Terry and Ray. \n\nThese glasses are made by Italian brand Persol. Persol glasses were famously worn by Steve McQueen as a dashing thief in <i>The Thomas Crowne Affair </i>(1968), and similar thick-rimmed glasses were worn by Michael Caine in his role as criminal-turned-spy in <i>The Ipcress File</i> (1965).
