MCCARTNEY'S SENSE OF MELODY AND HARMONY ARE TRULY STAGGERING AND WHEN YOU LOOK BACK TO THE EARLY DAYS AND REALISE THAT HE WAS WORKING WITH A VERY MINIMAL KNOWLEDGE OF THE GEOMETRICS AND TECHNICALITIES OF MUSIC IT IS EVEN MORE STAGGERING. OR PERHAPS THAT'S MOST OF THE ANSWER. RINGO TOLD US HE WAS AMUSED BY HUGHIE GREEN AND HIS CRIES OF \"SELF TAUGHT LADIES AND GENTLEMAN\" WHEN INTRODUCING THE KIDDIES ON OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS. \"WHAT DOES HE THINK WE ALL ARE OUT THERE... WE'RE ALL BUSKERS.\" PAUL IS A BUSKER OF THE HIGHEST ORDER. ONE OF THE FINEST WE'VE EVER SEEN. LIKE JOHN HE HAD AND STILL HAS THE ABILITY TO BREAK ALL THE RULES, LEAPING FROM KEY TO KEY AND SNAPPING A PASSAGE MID-COURSE AND IT ALWAYS SEEMED TO BE JUST RIGHT. THE VOCAL HARMONIES BEHIND THE MELODIES OWE SOMETHING TO AMERICAN SOUL ARTISTS AND (IN THE EARLY DAYS) TO PEOPLE LIKE THE EVERLYS BUT THERE WAS A LOT MORE THERE AND THE WORLD WASN'T ABOUT TO BE HYPED FOR THEN LONG YEARS. BUT THE BEATLES ARE FINISHED. SO WHAT NOW? PERHAPS PAUL NEEDED THE MAGIC LOGO MORE THAN THE OTHER THREE. HE SEEMS TO THRIVE ON AN AURA OF GREATNESS AND SINCE WINGS DOESN'T OFFER HIM THIS INGREDIENT IT MAY EXPLAIN WHY HE APPEARS TO BE STAGNATING. HIS ATV SPECIAL, JUDGING FROM EARLY REPORTS, WILL TELL ANOTHER STORY. AND THIS IS PROBABLY THE DIRECTION HE'LL MOVE TOWARDS. BIGH [sic] PRODUCTIONS, BIG BUDGETS AND THE SORT OF PACE THAT ALLOWS HIM TO ADD THE FINE MASTER'S TOUCH. HE TOLD US: \"I FEEL I HAVE SO MUCH IN ME I HAVEN'T EVEN HINTED AT YET.\" WE'LL BE RIGHT BEHIND YOU.\r\nPICTURE BY BOB ELLIS","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"Printed on reverse side."}],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Poster of David Bowie from Disc magazine, 1973","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[{"text":"Album: The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars (1972)","id":"AUTH401592"},{"text":"Album: Aladdin Sane (1973)","id":"AUTH401593"}],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["LOAN:AMERICASFOUNDATION.1908-2024"],"accessionNumberNum":"1908","accessionNumberPrefix":"LOAN:AMERICASFOUNDATION","accessionYear":2024,"otherNumbers":[{"type":{"text":"David Bowie Archive Number","id":"THES394108"},"number":"1972.3002.0095"}],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2026-05-09","recordCreationDate":"2024-06-11","availableToBook":true}}
