The first two models introduced were the RE-101 and the RE-201, the latter of which also included spring reverb. Instead of the tape reel used in previous tape echo units, the Space Echo used a free-running tape transport system. This made the units more reliable and easier to transport. The RE-201 remained in  production until the late 1980s.\n\nThe RE-201 Space Echo unit modulated sound to create a warm, rhythmic, echoing effects. Bowie, and producers Brian Eno and Tony Visconti, used this unit in the late 1970s on the 'Berlin Trilogy' of albums; <i>Low</i>, <i>\"Heroes\"</i>, and <i>Lodger</i>. These albums utilised many different pieces of electronic equipment to produce complex, atmospheric soundscapes.
