He had purchased it from A.T. Furlong & Sons in Bromley, for around £55. The acrylic design made it a cheaper option than other models, approximately half the cost of a conventional brass saxophone at that time. However, it also made it a very fragile and limited the sound projection. In 1962,  Bowie persuaded his father to buy a Conn Tenor saxophone instead, on a hire-purchase plan from a shop on Tottenham Court Road, for which Bowie then paid his father back over time. \n\nBetween the spring and summer of 1962, Bowie took lessons from local baritone saxophonist Ronnie Ross.
