She studied photography at Guildford School of Art and moved to Paris to work alongside the portrait photographer André Thevenet. In 1958, she went to stay with a student friend in Calcutta and travelled throughout the following year in India, Sikkim and Kashmir. On returning to the UK, Bone focussed on her independent art practice. She photographed in North Uist, Outer Hebrides, Dartmoor and in Greece and Italy.\n \r\n1965 was an important year in the development of Bones ideas. She began to experiment with combinations of separate images and textures to form final pictures. This culminated in Circle of Light, (1972) an experimental film created from transparencies by Bone collaborating with filmmaker Anthony Roland, video art and installation artist Elsa Stansfield (1945-2004) and composer Delia Derbyshire (1937-2001) of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop.
