There were three women photographers associated with the surname 'Dillwyn' in the 1850s and it is not clear which 'Dillwyn' woman is being referred to in the annotation. Mary Dillwyn (sister of Lewis Llewelyn Dillwyn and John Dillwyn Llewelyn) would go on to marry Rev. Welby, though as she married at an age that was considered 'advanced' at the time, the Mrs moniker might have been applied to her even if she was unmarried at the time of production of these photographs; Emma Llewelyn (the wife of Lewis Llewelyn Dillwyn) was known as more a printer than a photographer; and Thereza Dillwyn Llewelyn (daughter of John Dillwyn Llewelyn). After comparing these three photographs with photographs in albums made by these women located at the National Library of Wales and the National Museum of Wales, there is doubt that this attribution is accurate as there are no photographs in any of these albums resembling these three RPS images.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Photograph by Mrs Dillwyn, 'L.L.
