However, Bowie does not wear this costume in that television special. It may be the case that Burretti designed this costume for that purpose, but it was ultimately not used. The trousers of this ensemble may be the trousers that Bowie wears in a 1975 photoshoot by Steve Shapiro (DBA/5/13/17). \n\nFreddie Burretti was a Hackney-born designer and tailor who was a close friend and collaborator of David Bowie from the late 1960s through until the mid 1970s. Burretti designed many of the earliest and most recognisable Ziggy Stardust outfits worn both on and off stage, and worked closely with Bowie to establish the overall Ziggy “look”. Burretti also designed many of the two-piece suits worn by Bowie throughout the Diamond Dogs tour in 1974. Burretti’s tailoring is often recognisable by its use of women’s silhouettes, wide lapels and collars and narrow nipped-in waists, as well as by his use of brightly coloured fabrics and textiles, often purchased from Liberty in London or from the fashionable boutiques on Kensington Church Street.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Costume designed by Freddie Burretti for David Bowie ca. 1973","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["S.330:1-2024","S.330:2-2024"],"accessionNumberNum":"330","accessionNumberPrefix":"S","accessionYear":2024,"otherNumbers":[{"type":{"text":"David Bowie Archive Number","id":"THES394108"},"number":"1973.2003.0005"}],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2026-04-01","recordCreationDate":"2024-03-19","availableToBook":false}}
