Unlined.\n\n<b>Part 3: Shirt</b>\nBright red silk long sleeved shirt. Buttons down the front and at the cuffs with red plastic buttons. Collarless, with slight balloon sleeves. Has built in leotard bottom insert. \n\n<b>Part 4 and 5: Boots</b>\nA pair of red suede Western-style boots with black elastic inserts and wooden soles, black cotton bootstraps, leather lining, and silver metal tips and heels. Clip onto trousers at front and back. The mouthpiece has silver gaffa tape wraped around the centre. There is a Fender M2 Cardioid Condenser Microphone which is held in the mouthpiece of the telephone. It is covered by a seperate foam cushion cover. The wire feeds through the base of the mouthpiece, through a length of nylon cord, and into the metal square base of the telephone. This base is hollow, and contains inside the rest of the microphone wires. One side of the base is closed with silver gaffer tape but the other three sides are partially open, and a wire with a 4-pin Hirose connector extends from one side to allow a power input. "}],"objectHistory":"This costume is worn by David Bowie during the opening sequence of the<i> Glass Spider </i>tour show in 1987. Bowie would be lowered from the roof of the stage, sat in a silver chair, wearing this costume and singing the song 'Glass Spider' into the custom made silver telephone-microphone prop. The use of the chair and telephone is a recreation of a sequence from the<i> Diamond Dogs </i>tour show 13 years earlier, where Bowie sang the song 'Space Oddity'  into a telephone whilst suspended over the audience in a chair attached to the arm of a cherry picker.\n\nDesigner Diana Moseley has said that she wanted to create an attention-grabbing, bold opening look, which led to the creation of this bright scarlet suit. Moseley was interested in colour theory at the time, and wanted to use the colour red to denote excitement, dynamism, love and danger. Coincidentally, when presented with the set model for the tour, Moseley saw that the figurine that set designer Mark Ravitz had made to represent Bowie had already been coloured a bright red. \n\nThe suit was designed and made without in-person fittings. Moseley employed London tailor David Chambers to make the suit. The fabric was cut on the cross grain, with spiral seams, to allow for easy movement on stage. The red wool for the suit was sourced from Laurent Garigue.  The silver tipped red cowboy boots were bought from Lloyd Johnson's outlet in Kensington Market.
