Lyth first joined Wedgwood in 1913, before enlisting to serve in the British Army. He returned to Wedgwood after his service, re-employed as an assistant to John Cook, Curator of the Wedgwood Museum. When the collection was packed away in the Second World War, Lyth worked as a jasper ornamentor. After the War and the return of the collections, he succeeded John Cook as the Wedgwood Museum Curator, holding the post until his retirement in 1960. To mark the occasion, he was presented with “two winged chairs, an electric razor, and an inscribed mug”.
