Inspired by his father, the renowned filmmaker Ebrahim Golestan, he embarked on a career photojournalism and covered major events of the late-20th century, including the troubles in Ireland and the Iran-Iraq war. His coverage of the 1979 revolution in Iran won him a Pulitzer Prize.
