It took his thousands of experiments over several years to perfect the material, which was versatile and could be coloured, cut and polished to great effect on his products. It could be coloured with a range of mineral oxide stains. \r\nOrnamenting, also known as sprigging, is the process of applying small reliefs to a ceramic body. The relief is pressed onto a moistened ceramic surface – a vase or plaque for example - then fired.","physicalDescription":"Large footed bowl, blue Jasperware body with white applied reliefs of boys and swags of grapes on vines, border of circles on rim and floral border to foot, interior surface polished","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Beauclerk, Diana","id":"N2065"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"AAT25190"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Josiah Wedgwood and Sons","id":"A1450"},"association":{"text":"manufacturers","id":"AAT25230"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"Jasperware","id":"x30174"}],"techniques":[{"text":"relief","id":"AAT53622"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Jasperware with applied relief","categories":[{"text":"V&A Wedgwood Collection","id":"THES276060"},{"text":"ceramics","id":"THES48982"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"WED","id":"THES270009"},"images":["2024NR9547"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"WDG1","id":"THES264736"},"free":"","case":"CA22","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"bowls","id":"AAT203596"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Etruria","id":"x33200"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1786-1795","earliest":"1786-01-01","latest":"1795-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"V&A Wedgwood Collection.
