The type of ware was suggested by Wedgwood’s business partner Thomas Bentley and made against Wedgwood’s inclination, as he was conscious of the inevitable comparison with the traditional redwares. He was reluctant to develop it, unsatisfied with the result, made very little use of it and never listed it in his catalogues.","physicalDescription":"Sugar bowl and cover, rosso antico with white applied reliefs of Japonica (flowering quince), two handles moulded in the shape of branches, white finial on cover in the shape of a branch","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Josiah Wedgwood and Sons","id":"A1450"},"association":{"text":"manufacturers","id":"AAT25230"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"ceramic","id":"AAT235507"}],"techniques":[{"text":"relief","id":"AAT53622"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"rosso antico with applied reliefs","categories":[{"text":"V&A Wedgwood Collection","id":"THES276060"},{"text":"ceramics","id":"THES48982"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"WED","id":"THES270009"},"images":["2024NY1421"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"WDG2","id":"THES292798"},"free":"","case":"CA36","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"WDG2","id":"THES292798"},"free":"","case":"CA36","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"bowls","id":"AAT203596"}],[{"text":"covers","id":"AAT197210"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Etruria","id":"x33200"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1810","earliest":"1805-01-01","latest":"1814-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"V&A Wedgwood Collection.
