Queen Charlotte’s (1744–1818) patronage in 1765 was a significant factor in the growth of Wedgwood’s reputation, naming his creamware as Queen’s Ware and adopting the title ‘Potter to Her Majesty’.  \r\n\r\nSince then, Wedgwood has embedded a tradition of creating commemorative pieces honouring significant royal events, such as this 1969 earthenware mug commemorating the investiture of Prince Charles (b.1948) as the Prince of Wales. Designed by British designer Richard Guyatt (1914-2007), it features to black and gold motifs depicting plumes of feathers and Welsh dragons.
