It was generally employed by Wedgwood for tableware, though it is occasionally to be found, with gilding, in the form of small vases and inkstands. The interiors of hollow pieces for tableware were often brightened with a contrasting wash of robin’s egg blue. The drab colour was achieved by a mixture of manganese and nitre (potassium nitrate) with the addition of blue stain to the glaze to deepen the shade.","physicalDescription":"Plate, glazed earthenware with gilded decoration; circular saucer with raised rim, body with green drab glaze, rim decorated with gilded band.","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Josiah Wedgwood and Sons","id":"A1450"},"association":{"text":"manufacturers","id":"AAT25230"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"earthenware","id":"x29356"}],"techniques":[{"text":"glazing","id":"AAT53914"},{"text":"gilding","id":"AAT53789"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Earthenware with glazed and gilded decoration.","categories":[{"text":"V&A Wedgwood Collection","id":"THES276060"},{"text":"Ceramics","id":"THES48982"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"WED","id":"THES270009"},"images":[],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"WDG2","id":"THES292798"},"free":"","case":"CA35","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"plates","id":"AAT42991"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Etruria","id":"x33200"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1810 - 1830","earliest":"1810-01-01","latest":"1830-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"V&A Wedgwood Collection.
