The artist Arthur Watts (1883-1935), in common with many illustrators of his time, contributed to many of the weekly illustrated magazines, including four drawings a week for the Radio Times. He is also known for his illustrated books, notably E.M. Delafield’s book Ðiary of a Provincial Lady, and designed London Transport posters. His clear outline style was well suited both to poster art and cartoon art, and his strength as an illustrator lay in his focus on providing humorous social commentary on class distinctions in Britain.
