Abstract in feel yet minutely detailed, his ‘lenticular’ jewels are built up of densely-packed tiny discs whose convex sides provide contrasts of colour while their edges create a sense of linear movement over a rippling surface. Of great technical sophistication, there is invariably a playfulness in the optical tricks that are characteristic of his work and profundity in his ability to explore essential patterns and structures within nature. In this ring the pattern (and sense of tension) is inspired by iron filings caught in a magnetic field (the ring is called ‘Tesla 1’ after the unit by which magnetic flux density is measured). \n\r\nIn addition to his own practice, Andrew Lamb lectures at Glasgow School of Art. His subtle and innovative jewellery has won many awards. \r\n","physicalDescription":"Horizontal oval bezel covered with undulating densely-packed discs which radiate from two raised central points. Each disc is gold on one face and oxidised silver on the other, with the metal appearing to change according to the angle. The band is partly of gold, with oxidised silver shoulders which branch into four supports attaching to the back of the bezel.
