His allegorical works were deliberately provocative for the time – he staged himself as Christ and created sensuous, homoerotic portraits. Drawing on classical motifs, Day reinterpreted the form of the male nude as idealised in Greek and Roman sculpture. In these photographs, he paired his sitters with props including miniature monuments that speak to the aesthetic presentation of the body through history.\r\n\nPlatinum prints\r\nMuseum nos.
