Its fragile curves extending beyond yet balanced within an angular frame explore space and materiality. Galerie Marzee refers to Marchetti’s ‘visual language of precious, ruptured fragments handled with a painterly sensitivity to colour and form’ and this brooch is testament to his tireless fascination and experimentation with metals.\n\r\nThis experimentation began over twenty years ago, when Marchetti started investigating ways of creating structured forms within a metal frame using wire. His primary objective was to address the issue of distortion caused by hammering. To achieve this, he employed a combination of techniques including soldering and chiselling as well as careful monitoring of the temperatures at which various alloys would melt.  Through this experimentation process, Marchetti discovered a platinum alloy which was more suitable for the creation of these pieces. Marchetti’s exploration of materials and their boundaries is ongoing.\r\n","physicalDescription":"A rectangular brooch with a rigid framework of slender platinum rods and a fine veiling of gleaming platinum wires that run vertically over the diagonal slopes of the brooch's front. These angled front panels face each other, and as the two sides come together the wires billow out and interlock. A horizontal pin on the reverse.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Stefano Marchetti","id":"AUTH333933"},"association":{"text":"designed and made by","id":"x28674"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"platinum","id":"AAT11031"}],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Platinum","categories":[{"text":"Jewellery","id":"THES48930"},{"text":"Metalwork","id":"THES48920"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"MET","id":"THES48599"},"images":["2024NV7469","2024NV7471","2024NV7472","2024NV7470"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"003","id":"THES404560"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Brooch","id":"THES287566"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Italy","id":"x28927"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"2021","earliest":"2021-01-01","latest":"2021-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"45","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"60","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Depth","value":"33","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"The brooch was created in 2021 and was displayed at COLLECT 2023 by Galerie Marzee","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Brooch, platinum, designed and made by Stefano Marchetti, Italy 2021","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["M.59-2023"],"accessionNumberNum":"59","accessionNumberPrefix":"M","accessionYear":2023,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-09-17","recordCreationDate":"2023-03-20","availableToBook":true}}
