The design is adapted from Wedgwood's Sydney Cove medallion to celebrate the French Revolution. The figure previously representing Peace is now probably intended as Fortuna or Concordia. She is holding a staff surmounted by the Revolutionary Phrygian cap and a shield with the royal fleur-de-lys representing King Louis XVI of France is to be seen on a column in the background. The other allegories are representing Hope, Art and Labour. The medallion is mounted in a wooden frame.","physicalDescription":"Round medallion, blue Jasperware with white relief of four figures, mounted in a gilded wooden frame.","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Josiah Wedgwood and Sons","id":"A1450"},"association":{"text":"manufacturers","id":"AAT25230"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"Jasperware","id":"x30174"}],"techniques":[{"text":"bas-relief","id":"AAT53623"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Jasperware with applied relief","categories":[{"text":"V&A Wedgwood Collection","id":"THES276060"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"WED","id":"THES270009"},"images":["2022NC5384"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"SHLN","id":"THES49063"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"medallion","id":"x31798"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Etruria","id":"x33200"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1789","earliest":"1789-01-01","latest":"1789-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"V&A Wedgwood Collection.
