In the 1920s Skeaping was commissioned by Wedgwood to model a series of animal subjects in the art deco style. These figures were so successful that they were produced as late as the 1950s, and six of the subjects including this dramatic model of the tiger and buck were again revived in 1987. Skeaping was also a prize-winner in the international competition of 1930 to design a vase to commemorate the bicentenary of Josiah Wedgwood’s birth.","physicalDescription":"Sculpture, moulded Queen's ware; cream colour, a Tiger walking through foliage, clutching a Buck's head in it's jaws, remainder of Buck's body dragging behind, mounted on a rectangular plinth.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"John Skeaping","id":"A3065"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"AAT25190"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Josiah Wedgwood and Sons","id":"A1450"},"association":{"text":"manufacturer","id":"x33306"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"earthenware","id":"x29356"}],"techniques":[{"text":"glazing","id":"AAT53914"},{"text":"moulding","id":"x46876"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Queen's ware, moulding","categories":[{"text":"V&A Wedgwood Collection","id":"THES276060"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"WED","id":"THES270009"},"images":["2022NC5526"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"SHLN","id":"THES49063"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"sculpture","id":"AAT47090"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Etruria","id":"x33200"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1927","earliest":"1922-01-01","latest":"1931-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"V&A Wedgwood Collection.
