The pattern was designed by Victor Skellern, who joined Wedgwood in 1923 as a fully-trained professional designer. Skellern had studied at Burslem School of Art and in 1930, took up a scholarship at the Royal College of Art. He returned to Wedgwood in 1934, employed as Art Director. Many of Skellern’s design ideas were developed by absorbing the natural environment while on holiday or visits to Derbyshire and the Cotswolds.","physicalDescription":"Teacup and saucer, white bone china, painted with red and white background, decoration of horses on the cup, black handle, and red and white patches on saucer","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Victor Skellern","id":"A18474"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"AAT25190"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Josiah Wedgwood and Sons","id":"A1450"},"association":{"text":"manufacturers","id":"AAT25230"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"Bone china","id":"AAT233473"}],"techniques":[{"text":"hand painted","id":"x39976"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Bone china with hand-painted decoration","categories":[{"text":"V&A Wedgwood Collection","id":"THES276060"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"WED","id":"THES270009"},"images":["2023NH7203","2023NH7207"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"005","id":"THES382865"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"005","id":"THES382865"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"cup","id":"AAT43202"}],[{"text":"saucer","id":"AAT195535"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Etruria","id":"x33200"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1934","earliest":"1934-01-01","latest":"1934-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"V&A Wedgwood Collection.
