His designs incorporated ‘glazes from special recipes’. Produced in small numbers and not sold in Wedgwood’s shops, many of the pieces combined modern glazes and forms with reinterpretations of classic Wedgwood decoration, from agateware to incised banding and turning. They were shown in 1936 in the Grafton Galleries exhibition, which proved an important launchpad for some of Wedgwood’s most modern developments.","physicalDescription":"Vase, Queen's ware with glazed and engine turned decoration; Oviform shape, circular foot, exterior body dipped in brown glaze, engine turned concentric bands reveal original cream colour base underneath, interior with black glaze, circular foot and rim remain cream colour.
