On this example, five saints are shown beneath arches, each holds a book: St. Andrew, St. John the Evangelist, St. James the Greater, St. Bartholomew (who also holds a flaying knife), and St. Matthew. Latin inscriptions beside each figure further identify them. The linen design is embroidered in silver, silver-gilt and silk threads applied to red velvet.","physicalDescription":"Embroidered apparel for an alb. It is of linen, embroidered with silver-gilt and silver thread, coloured silks in split stitch, as well as laid and couched work in red velvet. The embroidery has been sewn down onto a piece of white linen with blue stripes. Around the edge of the velvet is attached a border of linen embroidered in split stitch and couched work with a chequered design in blue, grey and buff silks and metal thread (most of the metal thread has now dissapeared). In the corners are remains of small squares of black velvet embroidered with stars. The design of the main section of embroidery consists of five gothic arches under which stand five saints. All the saint figures are depicted with cloaks and haloes, which are worked in metal thread. In the triangular spaces above the arches are formal leaf motifs in yellow, blue, green and white and metal thread.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"linen thread","id":"x35336"},{"text":"silk","id":"AAT14072"},{"text":"silver thread","id":"x29414"}],"techniques":[{"text":"velvet weave","id":"x46483"},{"text":"embroidery","id":"x40351"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Linen, embroidered in silver with silver-gilt and silk thread, applied to velvet","categories":[{"text":"Christianity","id":"THES48978"},{"text":"Ecclesiastical textiles","id":"THES48962"},{"text":"Embroidery","id":"THES48960"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&F","id":"THES48601"},"images":["2012FK8087"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"001","id":"THES343883"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Alb apparel","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Italy","id":"x28927"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1330 - ca. 1350","earliest":"1325-01-01","latest":"1354-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Purchased from J F de C Andrade","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Length","value":"11.25","unit":"in","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"20.5","unit":"in","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"'S.Ioanni'","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"Embroidered in one of the five gothic arches in the main section of embroidery."},{"content":"'S.Andreas P'","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"Embroidered in one of the five gothic arches in the main section of embroidery."},{"content":"'S.
