In this work, Ridler makes visible the labour and resources required to create datasets that inform everyday technologies, spotlighting the lesser-known complexities of machine learning infrastructures.\r\n                \r\nUsually, datasets are developed via harvesting pre-existing images from the internet. These images are then categorised with labels and used to train computer programmes. The source images that formed <i>Myriad (Tulips)</i>, however, were compiled by Ridler herself. She took around ten thousand photographs of tulips over the course of three months to produce a myriad of tulip images. She also hand-wrote descriptions, such as the flower's colour and condition, on each photograph, which act as metadata tags for the dataset.
