Access to the Museum was given by the Iraqi Culture Minister Fryad Rwandozi, after meeting the artist at a UNESCO event in 2017. Secunda entered the Mosul Museum with the Iraq army specifically to make moulds of the damaged sculptures inside, which were then used to make an installation for the Ashmolean Museum and resulted in a series of prints. It is an evocative use of materials to discuss the difficult subject of the destruction of cultural artifacts in war zones.","physicalDescription":"Etching depicting destroyed artefacts in the Mosul Museum, from an edition of 30","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Secunda, Piers","id":"AUTH385209"},"association":{"text":"artist","id":"AAT25103"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"","categories":[{"text":"Prints","id":"THES48903"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2023NL4944"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLC","id":"THES49171"},"free":"","case":"EE","shelf":"130","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"print","id":"AAT41273"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Britain","id":"x32019"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"2018","earliest":"2018-01-01","latest":"2018-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[{"object":{"text":"E.3-2023","id":"O1741855"},"association":""}],"creditLine":"Given by Piers Secunda","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"51","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"68","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Print entitled 'Mosul Museum' by Piers Secunda, etching on Somerset paper with Mosul Museum ink (from an edition of 20).
