Moulds are usually made of plaster of Paris and are used for the casting of shapes which cannot be made on the potter's wheel. Moulds are often made from an original shape in clay or a model of wax or carved wood. There are 3 stages to the making of a mould: First, the original model is used to make a case mould, then the case mould is used to make a block mould - a replica of the original object.
