This wedding ensemble of a dress and shoes was adapted for a disabled bride. Janet Jones (née Powell) was born 29th February 1944. She had one dislocated hip joint and one missing hip joint which resulted in one leg being shorter than the other. To address the difference, she had a seamstress adapt her purchases of ready-made clothing, including this unlabelled wedding dress: the seamstress adjusted the hem to hang straight on the bride's tilted hips. Janet wore bespoke orthopaedic shoes, which at that time came only in black or brown. For her wedding she painted a pair white herself.
