In this respect, a table is an important piece of furniture in Korea, and comes in a wide variety of shapes, styles, materials, and purposes. However, these tables have in common their short height due to the sitting culture that developed in Korea thanks to the introduction of ondol, the hypocaust system introduced during the Bronze Age. \r\n\r\nThere are various ways of categorising and calling these tables, this one is called hojokban - the 'tiger-legged' table. Made by Kim Chunsik, who started his career in 1961 amind the rapid production of foldable tables favoured at the time. He revived a disappearing tradition and was awarded in 1992 the prestigious title of 'Important Intangible Cultural Property' in soban making.
