The uprights of the back of the baluster form are fluted, with reading on the lower parts. They support an arched cresting made up of scroll forms. The cane panel is set in a frame which is shaped at the top and bottom and straight-sided. The seat frame is small, plain and tapering towards the back. The rear legs are a continuation of the back supports, turned, with square sections at the joints. The front legs are straight, having turned mouldings, with a gadrooned swelling near the top and gadrooned bun feet. The front stretcher is in the form of an arched cresting, similar to the toprail. The two side stretchers, the back stretcher and the central stretcher are turned and carved.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"maker","id":"x40240"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"John Haynes & Sons","id":"A23804"},"association":{"text":"restorers","id":"AAT25821"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"beech","id":"AAT11948"},{"text":"cane","id":"AAT11864"}],"techniques":[{"text":"turning","id":"AAT53158"},{"text":"carving","id":"AAT53149"},{"text":"caning","id":"AAT53599"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"","categories":[{"text":"Furniture","id":"THES48948"},{"text":"Woodwork","id":"THES48877"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"FWK","id":"THES48597"},"images":["2015HK1987","2017KB3185"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"001","id":"THES342326"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Chair","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"England","id":"x28826"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"June 1983","earliest":"1983-06-01","latest":"1983-06-30"},"association":{"text":"restored","id":"AAT53742"},"note":""},{"date":{"text":"ca. 1695","earliest":"1690-01-01","latest":"1699-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"131.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"48","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Depth","value":"54","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Height","value":"42","unit":"cm","qualifier":"to top of seat rail","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"taken from object","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Beech chair, English, ca. 1695, caned seat and back","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"re-caned by John Haynes & Sons","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["W.71-1911"],"accessionNumberNum":"71","accessionNumberPrefix":"W","accessionYear":1911,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-04-19","recordCreationDate":"2008-11-14","availableToBook":true}}
