Instead of working from a sketch or design, she first creates numerous bulbous parts that take the shape of clouds and rocks, then assembles the parts into a complete piece. During the process, the image of the sculpture constantly shifts which reflects the artist’s understanding of the nature.  Huang’s work also references elements from traditional culture, including the ‘scholar’s rock’ and the runny, transmutation (or ‘flambé) glazes which mimic the river flows. The use of transmutation glaze is well developed in historic ceramics, particularly those represented by the Jun ware of the Song dynasty, and Shiwan ware of the Qing dynasty.\n\nAfter studying at Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute in 2012, Huang Jing received her MFA from Alfred University. Hernature, identity, miniature, dislocation, cultures and conventions, tracing her position through comparing and utilizing the symbols and values from the east and the west. The ‘Loop’ is a series of works that indicate ‘no beginning or end, but place an emphasis on the path itself’.
