The three figures represent Saints Peter, Paul and James. Saint Paul is given prominence, because he was the author of the majority of the Epistles, from which readings would have been made at this lectern. Another carving acquired at the same time (Museum Number 5799-1859) would have acted as the support for the Gospel lectern, from which the gospel accounts of Christ's life were read during services. Both lectern supports may come from the same pulpit, now destroyed.","physicalDescription":"In the centre stands St. Paul, his right hand resting on a volume of epistles held in his left. St. Peter is behind his left shoulder with a key, and St. James behind the right holding a scroll.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Pisano, Nicola","id":"A3968"},"association":{"text":"makers","id":"AAT251917"},"note":"workshop of"}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"marble","id":"AAT11443"}],"techniques":[{"text":"high relief","id":"AAT53626"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"White marble in high relief","categories":[{"text":"Sculpture","id":"THES48896"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"SCP","id":"THES48600"},"images":["2009CE2290","2009CE2281","2009CE2280"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"10 (VA)","id":"THES49099"},"free":"","case":"WS","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Group saints Peter","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Pisa","id":"x32645"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1270","earliest":"1265-01-01","latest":"1274-12-31"},"association":{"text":"carved","id":"AAT53149"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"95.3","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"39","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Depth","value":"37","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Weight","value":"200","unit":"kg","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"Measured for the Medieval and Renaissance Galleries 2006.","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Figure group of Ss Peter, Paul and James by the workshop of Nicola Pisano, Pisa, ca. 1270","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"Inventory of Art Objects Acquired in the Year 1859 <u>In</u>: <u>Inventory of the Objects in the Art Division of the Museum at South Kensington, Arranged According to the Dates of their Acquisition.
