This group [C.84 to 105-1991] were brought together from various sources and were presented by the donors - the Curator and Deputy Curators of the Ceramics and Glass Section. The collection aims to illustrate the various uses of the 'Mug as bearer of message' over the past decade.\r\n\r\nThe 'Elvis' mug is produced in Staffordshire for 'Elvisly Yours', a company set up and run by Sidney Shaw from 107, Shoreditch High Street, London E1 6JN, which produced <u>Elvisly Yours</u>, \"The Best Elvis Presley [fan] Magazine in the world\", and markets what is claimed to be the widest known range of Elvis Presley memorabilia. This mug is a very popular item. It forms part of a pair of similar mugs sold together for £5.95 (inc. £1.50 p&p); also included in the range are another pair of earthenware mugs with different images (thought by Sid Shaw to be more 'artistic') for the same price, a pair of bone china mugs at £6.95 as well as commemorative plates, candy dishes, ash-trays and thimbles, some imported from the United States.\r\n\r\nThis mug is rather \"classier\" than the standard Staffordshire mug, with the slightly everted rim and the gilding - as befits a mug made to commemorate \"The King\".","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"'Elvis Presley' mug, white earthenware with printed decoration and gilding, designed by Elvisly Yours, England, 1990.","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[{"text":"Presley, Elvis","id":"N5439"}],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["C.84-1991"],"accessionNumberNum":"84","accessionNumberPrefix":"C","accessionYear":1991,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2026-01-01","recordCreationDate":"2008-11-07","availableToBook":true}}
