In this same year, Wedgwood was commissioned to create 944 pieces for a service for Empress Catherine II of Russia. This service was to show scenes from across the country and required Wedgwood to hire artists to paint views and copy existing engravings of country houses and natural landscapes. The scenes captured during this time provide a window into a moment in history.\n\nNicholas Dall was a landscape painter in the mid-18th century. The scene on this comportier may have been based upon one of his drawings.\n\nQueen’s Ware, cream coloured ware, or creamware, was renamed Queen's Ware by Wedgwood after it had received the patronage of Queen Charlotte in 1765. Wedgwood creamware, and coloured bodies are still known as Queen's ware, and the name has come to be used, erroneously, as a generic term for creamware of other factories. ","physicalDescription":"Catherine shape Queen's ware plate with scalloped edge and hand-painted rural scene with hand-painted caption 'Moore Park'","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Josiah Wedgwood and Sons","id":"A1450"},"association":{"text":"manufacturers","id":"AAT25230"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"earthenware","id":"x29356"}],"techniques":[{"text":"hand painted","id":"x39976"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"hand-painted Queen's ware.","categories":[{"text":"V&A Wedgwood Collection","id":"THES276060"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"WED","id":"THES270009"},"images":["2024NX5041"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"WDGC","id":"THES292797"},"free":"","case":"CA28","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"plates","id":"AAT42991"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Etruria","id":"x33200"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"productionDates":[],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"V&A Wedgwood Collection.
