The clock has a revolving brass 12 hour dial, each is sub-divided into quarters, at each of which the rim was drilled to take pins which protrude about 5/8 ths of an inch. The Watchmen on reading the clock would depress a lever in the case which would operate a small hammer which in turn would depress a pin. The clock case would be locked and the foreman was able to check on the progress of his watchmen by which pins had been depressed. The actual time could be read against the brass pointer (can't read words) against the dial. After 12 hours the pins were automatically re-set by passing over a ramp.","physicalDescription":"","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"wood, brass, engraved","categories":[{"text":"V&A Wedgwood Collection","id":"THES276060"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"WED","id":"THES270009"},"images":["2023NN3162","2023NN3163","2023NN3164"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"WDG1","id":"THES264736"},"free":"","case":"STAGE08","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"clock","id":"AAT41575"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1806","earliest":"1806-01-01","latest":"1806-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"V&A Wedgwood Collection.
