Mounted and bound in 8 volumes. Some leaves have cancelled text on versos.\nMemorandums for names, titles and chapter headings etc. on preliminary leaves of vols. 1 and 5. \"Dedication\" and \"Preface\" at end of v.8, the latter signed \"London, May 1857.\"\r\nThe writing paper is made up of 'Large Post' folio sheets that have been folded into bifolios, producing a 'Large Post' quarto, which were then torn in half by Dickens, mostly before writing. All manuscript leaves therefore have one torn side.\r\nPreviously bound in 4 volumes, rebound in the 1990s in 8 volumes in morocco half leather and marbled paper over boards.
