Its graphic approach to reportage and dynamic use of photography captured the public’s attention, selling over two million copies weekly. These examples show some of its most energetic stories, from kicking can-can dancers to London fire-fighters, hydro-electric dams in Scotland to tin extraction in Singapore and Malaysia. The reportage style of photography on these pages was pioneering.
