The design for the dress is included in the V&A's collection (S.332-2019). \n\nAlan Sievewright (1934-2007) was a designer, an impresario who promoted opera, and a television director.  April Olrich (1931-2014), a beautiful, glamorous woman, was born Edith April Oelrichs, in Zanzibar. She travelled extensively as a child as her father was a diplomat. Home educated, she trained in ballet in Buenos Aires, joined the Original Ballet Russe (de Basil company) at 13 and was invited to join the Sadler’s Wells Ballet in 1949. She remained with the company until 1954 before moving into popular theatre, television and film. Her London stage credits included <i>Pay the Piper</i> (1954-55), <i>The Balcony</i> (1957), <i>Honeymoon</i> (1957), the musical <i>The Boys from Syracuse</i> (1963), and the South African folk revue <i>Wait a Minim!</i> (1964-66) which transferred to Broadway (1966-67).
