At that time fashionable architecture was still carried out in uniformly white stucco or stone. But while he was training to be an architect, Jones visited Turkey and Egypt. He was impressed by the merit and vigour of non-European forms of architecture. He also admired the strong, clear colours and polychrome decoration on both the interiors and the exteriors of buildings. He drew on both traditions when he made the presentation drawings for alternative schemes for this Music Room,. He combined the European classical proportions of the pre-existing structure of the room with dense colour on the walls, which was in colour harmony with the curtain treatment.","physicalDescription":"Pen and ink and body colour drawing on paper","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Jones, Owen","id":"A8559"},"association":{"text":"artist","id":"AAT25103"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Pen and ink and body colour","categories":[{"text":"Interiors","id":"THES48933"},{"text":"Music","id":"THES253065"},{"text":"Designs","id":"THES48968"},{"text":"Architectural fittings","id":"THES48994"},{"text":"Drawings","id":"THES48966"}],"styles":[{"text":"Victorian","id":"x29321"},{"text":"Classical revival","id":"AAT108149"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2006AT5699"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLD","id":"THES49658"},"free":"","case":"DR","shelf":"180","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"designs","id":"AAT102051"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"England","id":"x28826"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1850","earliest":"1845-01-01","latest":"1854-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Presented by J.
