He fires his thinly formed, razor-edged shapes to very high temperatures, suspending them in the middle of the kiln so that their curved forms sag and drape with an uncanny sense of movement. This is one of his most successful pieces to date (as at Oct 2008), and was made in his newly refurbished studio, which was badly damaged by fire in 2007.","physicalDescription":"Four-sided box within a box, each side slumping towards its centre; barely discernible wave-like surface patterning; flecks of clear glaze all over.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Shigekazu Nagae","id":"A23479"},"association":{"text":"maker","id":"x40240"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"porcelain","id":"AAT10662"}],"techniques":[{"text":"slip-cast","id":"AAT53907"},{"text":"glazed","id":"AAT53914"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Slip-cast porcelain","categories":[{"text":"Sculpture","id":"THES48896"},{"text":"Ceramics","id":"THES48982"},{"text":"Porcelain","id":"THES48907"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"EAS","id":"THES48596"},"images":["2010EL1561"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"001","id":"THES398922"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"001","id":"THES343131"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Sculpture","id":""}],[{"text":"Storage box","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Seto","id":"x32187"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"2008","earliest":"2008-01-01","latest":"2008-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Width","value":"520","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Depth","value":"375","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Height","value":"270","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Sculpture, 'Forms in Succession', slip-cast porcelain, Japanese, by NAGAE Shigekazu (1953-), 2008","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"Unique","id":"THES48864"},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["FE.64:1-2008","FE.64:2-2008"],"accessionNumberNum":"64","accessionNumberPrefix":"FE","accessionYear":2008,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE","Sculpture","Storage box"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2026-05-11","recordCreationDate":"2008-10-14","availableToBook":true}}
