The brand is known for its Afrofuturistic and punk-inspired collections, which are created as a celebration of the city of Dakar where the duo first met. Their collections reference the sounds, shapes and scents of the city, abstracted into clothing: ‘Dakar transports you like a never-ending trance… it was from this evanescent whirlwind, this producer of ideas and desires, this everyday street life that the natural source of our inspiration came.’ \n\r\nThe brand predominantly creates everyday streetwear pieces available through their online shop, but also create one-off art pieces. The dress comes from the brand’s 2012 Tangana collection. The aesthetic was inspired by Mbithie Mbithe, strips of plastic commonly used to decorate buses and the front of traditional restaurants known as Tangana, from which the collection derives its name.\r\n","physicalDescription":"Sleeveless floor length dress made from multicoloured streamers made from PVC coated polyester, no under dress.\r\n\r\nSeparate bolero made from woven multicoloured streamers made from PVC coated polyester","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Tarot, Laura","id":"AUTH381492"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"x36960"},"note":""},{"name":{"text":"Sooley, Baay","id":"AUTH381493"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Bull Doff","id":"AUTH375935"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28674"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"PVC","id":"AAT14513"}],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"PVC coated polyester","categories":[{"text":"Fashion","id":"THES48957"},{"text":"Africa","id":"THES49019"},{"text":"Clothing","id":"THES48975"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&F","id":"THES48601"},"images":["2022NF0332","2022NF0333","2022NF0334"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"SHLN","id":"THES49063"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"SHLN","id":"THES49063"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"dress","id":"x47499"}],[{"text":"bolero","id":"AAT209876"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Dakar","id":"x38286"},"association":{"text":"designed","id":"x29338"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"2012","earliest":"2012-01-01","latest":"2012-12-31"},"association":{"text":"designed","id":"x29338"},"note":"made for 2012 collection"}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Purchased with funds from the Sue Smith bequest","dimensions":[],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Dress and bolero, mulitcoloured PVC coated polyester ribbons, Tanga collection, Bull Doff; Dakar, Senegal, 2012.\n","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[{"text":"Tarot and Sooley’s designs carry you to the bustling Senegalese capital of Dakar, celebrating it as an African metropolis of today and the future.
