When Monasterio’s brother, Fernando, designed a bridge to help the Huichol cross an impassable ravine during summer rains, he took inspiration from the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City. After Fernando’s death, members of the Huichol community visited New York to commemorate their collaboration. Monasterio’s work highlights photography’s power to bridge divides and foster connections.
