After the completion of his M.A. in 1997, he continued his training at the Kanazawa Utatsuyama Craft Workshop in his home prefecture of Ishikawa. \r\n\r\nA group of sculptures collectively titled <i>Wing of Foliage</i> is internationally known as his signature series. In the series, he explores harmonious coexistence in nature, such as the relationship between plants and insects. To express the lightness and softness of a tree’s leaf with the solid material of lacquer, he uses the dry lacquer technique. Since the early 2000s, he has developed his own method to stretch hemp cloth over a bowed bamboo twig as a substrate. The naturalistic form of each sculpture is informed by the combination of a bowed bamboo twig, hemp cloth and lacquer finishes.
