As well as showing the subjects that had traditionally been regarded as beautiful, Art Nouveau artists also found aesthetic satisfaction in new and less likely themes, many inspired by Japanese ceramics. The muted colours are typical for Royal Copenhagen; the soft blues and greens are among the few underglaze colours which can withstand the high temperatures necessary to fire the porcelain.\r\n\r\nHenry L.
