Warner & Sons Limited, founded in 1870 as a silk-weaving company, was one of the best-known producers of high quality domestic woven and printed furnishings. Straub had become the head designer at the firm in 1950, having previously designed for Helios Limited in Lancashire. ‘Helmsley’ is an example of a distinct type of pattern that emerged from the Festival of Britain in 1951, which was inspired by crystal-structure diagrams that recorded the arrangements of atoms in various substances. Here, the different circles represent atoms at separate levels within the nylon structure.","physicalDescription":"Woven cotton furnishing fabric with a green ground with a pattern of circles outlined and connected by white lines in a manner resembling atomic models.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Straub, Marianne","id":"A2404"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"AAT25190"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Warner and Sons","id":"A1723"},"association":{"text":"manufacturer","id":"AAT25230"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"Cotton","id":"x30425"}],"techniques":[{"text":"Weaving","id":"AAT53642"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Woven cotton","categories":[{"text":"Textiles","id":"THES48885"},{"text":"Furnishing fabrics","id":"THES280526"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&F","id":"THES48601"},"images":["2006AT9510"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"008","id":"THES330110"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Furnishing fabric","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"England","id":"x28826"},"association":{"text":"manufactured","id":"x29350"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1951","earliest":"1951-01-01","latest":"1951-12-31"},"association":{"text":"manufactured","id":"x29350"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Warner & Sons Ltd.","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Length","value":"175","unit":"cm","qualifier":"Approx","date":{"text":"28/07/2021","earliest":"2021-07-28","latest":"2021-07-28"},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"115","unit":"cm","qualifier":"Approx.","date":{"text":"28/07/2021","earliest":"2021-07-28","latest":"2021-07-28"},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Woven furnishing fabric, 1951, British.
