Each pattern in the series was inspired by the crystalline structure of a chemical compound, in this case boric acid. The crystallographer in this instance was Helen Megaw. The series was developed as the result of a collaboration between the Festival Pattern Group and the wallpaper manufacturer John Line & Sons Ltd. The four wallpapers produced for the Festival were used extensively in the Festival site - in the Regatta Restaurant, the Exhibition of Science and in the Dome of Discovery.","physicalDescription":"Portion of a wallpaper with a design based on the crystalline structures of boric acid, pattern group 8.34, featuring yellow circles, red triangles and white dots, on a dark-green ground; Screen print, on paper.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Odell, William J.","id":"A7795"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"x36960"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"John Line & Sons Ltd.","id":"A1870"},"association":{"text":"producer","id":"AAT197742"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Colour screenprint","categories":[{"text":"Wall coverings","id":"THES48878"},{"text":"Prints","id":"THES48903"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2006BF7895","2011EV2675"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLD","id":"THES49658"},"free":"","case":"DR","shelf":"148","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"wallpaper","id":""}],[{"text":"print","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"England","id":"x28826"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1951","earliest":"1951-01-01","latest":"1951-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"75","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"54.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"Dimensions from: Oman, Charles C., and Hamilton, Jean. <u>Wallpapers: a history and illustrated catalogue of the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum</u>.
