Around 1150, a new technique for decorating this celadon-glazed pottery was developed. Koryo Potters set coloured materials into the clay surface before the wares were glazed. After firing, the pattern inlaid in this way remained clearly visible beneath the transparent glaze. \r\n\r\nLidded boxes like this were probably used for cosmetics. The flowers are wild chrysanthemums, a common sight in Korea.","physicalDescription":"The box and lid are decorated with black and white inlay under a celadon glaze.  Six chrysanthemum heads surround a central flower on the top of the lid.
