The saucer has an incised mark in use between 1778 and 1781 and the Derby factory mark introduced in 1784 together with the gilder's number of Thomas Soare, suggesting it decorated a few years after it was made, probably to replace a broken piece. The cup and teabowl were probably decorated in London, possibly by an independent enameller rather than at the Chelsea Porcelain Factory.
