The score by Ludwig Minkus was arranged by John Lanchbery. \r\n\r\nStage designer, illustrator and creator of animated films, Emanuele Luzzati trained in Lausanne and began working in the theatre in his native Italy in 1947.  During the 1950s he designed for the major Italian theatre and opera companies and in 1960 joined director Franco Enriquez and actors, Valeria Moriconi and Glauco Mauri, to found La Compagnia dei Quattro (The Company of Four) which became famous for its productions of Absurdist drama. In Britain he became known for his fairy tale and colourful designs for Glyndebourne and the V&A holds designs for <i>The Magic Flute</i> (1963) as well as his 1970 <i>Don Quixote</i>.","physicalDescription":"Portfolio of six costume designs by Emanuele Luzzati for the ballet <i>Don Quixote</i>. He has a red beard.\n\n<b>S.1014:3-2021</b>\r\nDesign for Don Quixote. He wears armour, with red boots and cloak, and a barber's bowl helmet.\n\n<b>S.1014:4-2021</b>\nDesign for Basilio in the market scene. He wears shocking pink breeches, waistcoat and dance shoes with a yellow open shirt and an orange headscarf, neck tie and cummerbund.\n\n<b>S.1014:5-2021</b>\r\nDesign for Kitri for the palace scene and famous pas de deux. She wears a blue and white tutu and headdress.\n\n<b>S.1014:6-2021</b>\nDesign for the three peasants in the prologue. One female figure in a calf-length dress in red, purple and pink, with a red waistcoat and a pink swag of fabric on the skirt, and a red headscarf. To right of the figure are three blocks of colour (two shades of blue and one mauve), with arrows indicating different colourways for the costumes.\n\n<b>S.1014:7-2021</b>\nDesign for Sancho Panza.  He wears a brown shirt and brown breeches, a green waistcoat, yellow sash and a green cloak and has a hat and large boots.
